KINESTHETIC

What this means:

Each person has a preferred method of receiving and storing information. It is not always the same in every situation, but we each have an overall preferred method.

Some of the common characteristics of a kinesthetic person:

  • Often talks slowly because he/she needs time to get in touch with how he/she feels about the topic.

  • Responds to physical rewards and touching.

  • Memorizes and learns by doing or walking through something.

  • Learns by doing, moving or touching.

  • Tends to be interested in things that feel right.

  • Goes with his/her "gut" feelings when making decisions.

  • Dresses and grooms more for comfort than for looks.

  • Stands closer to other people than those with a visual preference.

The other primary methods:

The other primary methods of receiving and storing information are:  visual, auditory, and auditory digital. For more information about how these systems interact with each other, listen to this excerpt from our "I think I know what I think you said..." CD.

How you can use this:

The first rule of Maximum Communication is that the communication is the responsibility of the communicator. Knowing your system and the system of the other person or persons will allow you to convey your information in a way they will be able to understand.
