Each person has a preferred way of receiving and storing information. The more closely we provide the information in the form that the other person prefers, the more effective our communication will be.

The four Representational System components are:

Auditory
- Easily distracted by noise.
- Can repeat things back to you easily.
- Learns by listening.
- Likes music and talking on the phone.
- Tone of voice and words used are most important.
Visual
- Sits or stands with body erect.
- Memorizes by seeing pictures.
- Less distracted by noise.
- Often has trouble remembering.
- Bored by long verbal instructions; mind tends to wander.
- Interested in how things look.
- Learns by reading.
Kinesthetic
- Often talks slowly.
- Responds to physical rewards and touching.
- Memorizes and learns by doing or walking through something.
- Interested in things that feel right.
- Goes with "gut" feelings.
Auditory Digital
- Thinks using logic.
- Talks to themselves.
- Memorizes by steps, procedures, sequences.
- Wants to know that things make sense.
- Absorbs information primarily using auditory.
