AUDITORY

What this means:

Each person has a preferred method of receiving and storing information. It is not always the same in every situation, but we each have an overall preferred method.

Some of the common characteristics of an auditory person:

  • Easily distracted by noise.

  • Can repeat things back easily.

  • Able to remember directions or instructions more easily.

  • Learns by listening and asking questions.

  • Likes music and talking on the phone.

  • Is more aware of subtle change in voice tones and more responsive to certain tones of voice.

  • Enjoys discussions and prefer to communicate through spoken language rather than the written word.

  • Prefers phone over email.

  • Needs to talk through problems and like to have someone available to serve as a sounding board for ideas.

  • Needs to be heard.

The other primary methods:

The other primary methods of receiving and storing information are:  visual, kinesthetic, and auditory digital. For more information about how these systems interact with each other, listen to this excerpt from our "I think I know what I think you said..." CD.

How you can use this:

The first rule of Maximum Communication is that the communication is the responsibility of the communicator. Knowing your system and the system of the other person or persons will allow you to convey your information in a way they will be able to understand.
